By volunteering with St Joseph’s Outreach Services (SJOS), you will be doing your bit, helping us to assist individuals and families who are struggling with the basic necessities. In sharing your time, skills, knowledge and networks you can make a positive change, helping the people we support to overcome disadvantage and empowering them to build better futures for themselves.

It is estimated that in Melbourne, 1 in 4 people do some kind of volunteer work. SJOS believes that everyone has something to offer, whether you have a specialised skill, qualification, are interested in corporate volunteering or you just want to make a difference, we will do our best to match your interests with our activities, aiming to make your experience as a volunteer a satisfying one.

What type of volunteer opportunities do we have?

We have a wide variety of volunteer requirements. From one-off volunteer roles to on-going, continuous positions, we have something for everyone. Below is a list of some of the volunteer roles we have available

  • Fundraising - organising and working at events
  • General cleaning and restocking of the units at resident change-over
  • Working in the Food Store
  • Purchasing groceries and restocking the Food Store
  • Collecting the bread and bakery goods for the Bread Bank
  • Stocking the Bread Bank purpose-built freezer
  • Gardening - to grow food for the foodstore
  • Providing light maintenance services
  • Social Media Administration
  • Volunteer Opportunitues

Who Can Volunteer

Anyone over 18 can volunteer with us. We have a formal process in place for those who wish to volunteer with us. Simply complete the below form and we’ll get in touch with you as soon as possible to discuss what opportunities may be available and the procedures for doing so.

SJOS uses a program called ‘Better Impact’ to keep track of volunteer applications, volunteer opportunities, and provides a way for volunteers to sign up and log hours for their time spent at SJOS.
