Supporting our community through essential Services

Our services focus on emergency relief, food security, housing support and community connection.

Providing staple food items to support people in need.

Supports people receiving Centrelink payments with a monthly parcel of staple food items
Food parcels include eggs, cheese, milk, pasta, rice, cereals and other essentials
Operated by SJOS volunteers who source food, stock shelves and run the store
Funded through grants, donations and philanthropic support
Open days and times:
Thursday: 10:00am – 11:30am
Saturday: 3:00pm – 4:30pm
Sunday: 3:00pm – 4:30pm

A free, 24-hour bread bank accessible to the community.

Fresh produce grown for the Food Store and community support.

Short-term accommodation for individuals and families facing housing emergencies.

Provides 12 fully furnished, self-contained units for individuals and families experiencing housing emergencies
Includes five one-bedroom units and seven studio units
Units are fully equipped with utensils, crockery and linen
As a volunteer-run organisation, SJOS uses an external agency to select residents in line with the Residential Tenancies Act
Residents are referred and selected by HomeGround Real Estate Agency, a division of Launch Housing, Victoria’s largest housing and homelessness service provider
Referrals come from multiple charities supporting people in housing crisis
Many residents have experienced family violence or housing disputes
Residents contribute 25% of their Centrelink payment as rent
SJOS pays 30% of this rent to HomeGround Real Estate Agency as a management fee
Rental income does not fully cover operating and maintenance costs
Units operate at approximately 85% occupancy to allow for cleaning and maintenance
Around 40 families are supported each year
